A brief history of Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the best-known practices within Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its origins are linked to the development of Chinese Medicine over many centuries, with classical texts describing the use of selected points on the body as part of a broader system of health care.
Historically, acupuncture was not practised in isolation. It sat alongside other Chinese Medicine practices, including herbal medicine, dietary guidance, bodywork and observation of the individual’s overall presentation.
Today, acupuncture continues to be practised in Australia by registered Chinese Medicine practitioners. At Ling Tung Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine, your practitioner will discuss your individual presentation and whether acupuncture may be suitable for your circumstances.
What Acupuncture Involves
Acupuncture involves the careful placement of fine, sterile, single-use needles at selected points on the body. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, point selection is based on the practitioner’s assessment of your individual presentation.
No two patients present in exactly the same way. Your practitioner will take time to understand your health history, current concerns and treatment goals before discussing a treatment plan.
Where appropriate, acupuncture may be used on its own or alongside other Chinese Medicine therapies offered at the clinic. Your practitioner will explain the options available and support you in making an informed decision about your care.
Whether you have been considering acupuncture for some time or are only beginning to explore your options, you are welcome to contact our team.
If you would like to book an acupuncture appointment, ask about availability or clarify something before coming in, we are here to help.
