Algester sits at the border of Brisbane City and Logan City, a suburb of around 9,000 residents that crosses two council boundaries but shares the daily life of the broader southside community. More than 40% of Algester residents were born overseas, and the suburb has a notably diverse population with strong Chinese, Indian, and English-heritage communities. Ling Tung is accessible via Algester Road in around ten minutes. Traditional Chinese medicine has deep roots in many of the cultures well-represented in Algester, and our clinic offers it in a professional, modern setting, clear explanations, tracked outcomes, and honest advice about what to expect.

David Richardson

Founder | Practice Manager
David founded Ling Tung after decades teaching Wing Chun Kung Fu in the Ip Man lineage — the last formal disciple of Grandmaster Gregory Choi and sole custodian of the Wing Chun Ling Tung Gong tradition, from which the clinic takes its name.
What he brought from the martial arts into healthcare was a specific set of values: that honest feedback is more useful than reassurance, that people make better progress when they understand what is happening, and that the practitioner’s job is to make themselves unnecessary as soon as possible.
That’s what Ling Tung is built on.
FAQS
Considering acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine for the first time can feel unfamiliar, and it is natural to have questions before booking an appointment. The information below answers some commonly asked questions about our services, appointments and what to expect during your visit.
You are welcome to speak with your practitioner or our reception team if you have questions about our services, treatment options or appointment process. Following an assessment, your practitioner can discuss the approaches that may be appropriate for your individual circumstances. Open communication helps ensure you have the information you need to make informed decisions about your care.
Appointment availability can be viewed through our online booking portal. Once you register, you can see available appointment times and choose a time that suits you.
If you are unsure which appointment type to book, you are welcome to contact our reception team before booking.
Many people feel unsure about acupuncture needles at first, especially if they have only experienced needles used for injections or blood tests. Acupuncture needles are different. They are very fine, single-use needles made from surgical-grade stainless steel and used in accordance with applicable professional standards.
Sensations can vary from person to person. Some people notice very little sensation, while others may feel warmth, tingling, heaviness or mild pressure. Your practitioner will explain the process before treatment begins and you are welcome to ask questions at any stage.
It is very common to feel apprehensive before your first appointment, especially if acupuncture or Chinese Medicine is new to you. Your practitioner will take time to explain what is being recommended, what to expect, and what choices are available to you before treatment begins.
You can ask questions, let your practitioner know if you feel uncomfortable, and discuss any concerns at any point during your appointment.
We track your progress from the first session. Before we recommend additional appointments, we review what’s changed, your symptoms, energy, sleep, daily function. You’ll always know where you stand and why we’re recommending what we’re recommending. If something isn’t moving, we’ll tell you, and we’ll adjust the plan or refer you on if needed.
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is best. Depending on the treatment area, your practitioner may need access to areas such as your arms, legs, back or shoulders. Towels or coverings will be used where appropriate to help you feel comfortable during treatment.
If you are unsure about acupuncture, your practitioner can discuss other treatment options that may be suitable for your individual circumstances. These may include cupping, moxibustion, massage or other Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches, depending on your needs and presentation.
Before your first appointment, you will receive a link to complete your new client information and consent form through our online booking portal. Completing this before you arrive helps your practitioner understand your health history and allows more time during your appointment to discuss your concerns.
If you have relevant reports, scans, X-rays, referrals or test results, you are welcome to bring them with you.
Some private health funds may provide rebates for acupuncture, depending on your level of cover and your insurer’s requirements. Please check with your health fund directly to confirm whether you are eligible.
Try to avoid eating a heavy meal immediately before your appointment. It is generally best to arrive well hydrated and not overly hungry.
After your appointment, you may wish to drink water and take a little time before returning to strenuous activity, depending on how you feel.
Your initial consultation runs for approximately 60–90 minutes and costs $135. Follow-up appointments are $100 per session.
This first appointment allows time for your practitioner to discuss your health history, current concerns and treatment goals.
