What to expect during your first acupuncture treatment

Starting your wellness journey using acupuncture at Ling Tung Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine Clinic is exciting, but it can also be a little daunting if you’re new to the experience. Below are some frequently asked questions (FAQs) that may help. We also encourage you to talk to your friendly practitioner or reception staff about your concerns & treatment options. If acupuncture isn’t for you then we have other methods that may be able to help.  Open and active communication creates a stable, supportive healing environment.

Ling Tung Acupuncture Clinic schedules and organises appointment times to accommodate people’s busy schedules. When you register on our online portal you’ll be able to access all our available appointments right from your device and pick the one that suits you best.

Acupuncture needles are not like other medical needles that your GP would use. Our modern acupuncture needles are finer than a human hair and manufactured from the highest quality surgical stainless steel using advanced electromagnetic automated needle grinding & polishing technology to provide a needle that is infinitely smooth providing next to no resistance when used with the guide tube.  Most times you won’t even feel them being inserted, however you may feel a deep relaxation of the area as they begin to do their work.

Almost all new patients have some level of anxiety about their first treatment and that’s perfectly normal. The thought of being pricked by needles sounds pretty scary, but i can personally assure you that after you’ve had a treatment you’ll feel completely different about this ancient method of healing. Many of our clients have even said “is it in yet” as all they felt was a little bump of the guide tube.

Acupuncture treatments are designed to assist your body in healing itself, they are not a magic pill that can cure you instantly. The effects of acupuncture treatments are cumulative and while you may experience extraordinary results on your first visit it can take between 2-5 visits to really effect change in your body and get it moving in the right direction to begin healing itself.

Just wear something comfortable that is light and loose.

If acupuncture is totally out of your scope then we can offer other treatments such as cupping therapy, moxibustion, massage or electro stimulation therapy.

Once you’ve registered on the online booking portal you’ll be sent an email with a link to your New Client information and consent form. We ask that you fill this out prior to your arrival so you can spend more time with the Dr disussing your problem and more time on the treatment table.

If you have any Dr’s reports, x-rays or radiology results relating to your issue, then bring them with you as well.

Yes our acupunture treatments are covered by most private health  insurance providers. You’ll need to check with yours to see if it is applicable to you.

Try not to eat anything heavy for around 2 hours before your treatment. It’s best to be well hydrated and not hungry during your visit. We will give you a bottle of water as you leave to help your body cleanse after treatment.
